Storm Closes Desert View Drive & Hermit Road
The latest winter storm forced the closure of Hermit Road and Desert View Drive at Grand Canyon Nat'l Park. As of December 19th, 2008, Desert View Drive (the only road between the South Rim Village and the East Entrance at Desert View) is open but restricted to chains or four-wheel drive vehicles. Hermit Road is still closed - this essentially closes Hermit Trailhead.
Shuttle buses are still operating to take hikers to the South Kaibab Trailhead.
