Early February Storm Set for Northern Arizona
UPDATE: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Northern Arizona - Possible snow accumulation of up to 12" - Hazardous Travel Alert Has Been Issued...February 7, 2009
Northern Arizona is bracing for another bout of winter weather. Clear warm temperatures have prevailed recently, but that is about to change as a low pressure area moves through California and is poised to effect the Grand Canyon region by this weekend. The double whammy storm may begin as early as this evening (Friday, February 6th). This first, warmer storm should include rain and some snow along the higher elevations of the canyon's rim.
Daytime temperatures will hover around freezing on the rim, with inner canyon temps in the mid-fifties. Nights will be 20's on the rim, and low-40's along the Colorado River. These temps are set to drop by Monday when a second, colder storm moves in. A slight chance of precipitation will continue throughout the second week of February.
Make sure you include proper eguipment geared to inclement weather (including crampons) before entering the Grand Canyon.
